Mission Statement

The Voices Oral History Project collects and preserves human experiences that highlight the heritage of Warren and Trumbull County. By making these stories available to educators, researchers, and the public, Voices provides a tool to capture the valuable stories of our region. Voices is managed by the Trumbull County Historical Society in partnership with Warren and Trumbull County residents.

The Trumbull County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of all those in Warren and Trumbull County. Voices oral history initiative began as a response to the lack of African American stories represented in our collection. Seeking to address these significant gaps, TCHS turned to Warren's African American community to develop a collection of interviews that preserve the stories of Warren's 70+ year old African American residents. A steering committee of African American professionals and residents of Warren was built to guide the project. Committee members selected the interviewees, crafted interview questions, and conducted interviews to recognize the history of experiences of Warren’s African American community. As the Voices project moves forward, we will continue to expand the interviews that we collect to include larger geographic and thematic areas of our history.
